According to Nagpur Today, the redevelopment of Ajni Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is moving ahead, with major civil construction under way on both the eastern and western sides. The project aims to turn Ajni into a modern satellite terminal for Nagpur, with upgraded passenger facilities, better accessibility and closer connections to the Metro network.

Eastern side

The G+3 station building on the eastern side is nearing completion. The ground-floor ticket counter has been finished, and finishing and facade work is ongoing. Once the new terminal opens, passengers will have direct access from the eastern side, which the source says should make entering and leaving the station easier.

Elevated concourse

The main element of the project is a 72-metre-wide elevated, air-conditioned concourse. It is designed to serve as the principal circulation, waiting and holding area across all platforms. According to Nagpur Today, heavy steel girders had been placed above the railway tracks as of August 27, 2026, and the first level of foundation work was complete, while slab construction and roof launching were in progress.

Pawan Kumar Patil, Chief Project Officer of the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), described the concourse as the heart of the project. He said that once commissioned, it would link the eastern and western sides and provide improved amenities for passengers.

Western side and Metro link

On the western side, a G+1 station building is under construction. It is being built as an integrated facility with Congress Nagar Metro Station, which will create a direct interface between Indian Railways and Nagpur Metro. The source states that this should make transfers between rail and Metro more convenient.

Part of the girder-launching work on the western side is still pending. Officials said the underground road, or road underbridge (RUB), in front of Ajni station is under construction, and the remaining launching work will start after that road project is completed.

Train operations during works

Three platforms are currently operational, and work is in progress on four additional platforms. Trains are being run from the western side, using Platforms 1 and 2, so that services continue while construction proceeds.

The redevelopment is intended to give Ajni a larger role in handling the city's rail traffic, complementing Nagpur's main railway station. Once the facilities are commissioned, the station is expected to offer improved passenger circulation, expanded platform capacity and more convenient connections between rail, road and Metro services.
