According to Diário do Transporte, the opening of two stations on São Paulo's Line 6-Laranja has been postponed to the end of 2026. Brasilândia and Itaberaba-Hospital Vila Penteado, both in the north zone of the city, were originally scheduled to open in October 2026.
Revised timeline
The Artesp state transport agency confirmed the change. It reported that construction is 96.3% complete at Brasilândia and 87.7% complete at Itaberaba-Hospital Vila Penteado. Artesp said schedule changes are allowed after review by the regulator and the granting authority, provided the procedures and requirements in the contract are met. The concessionaire Linha Uni, responsible for the project, had not released further details about the delay.
Partial opening of the line
The state government brought forward the opening of part of the line. On 2 July 2026, six stations were opened: João Paulo I, Freguesia do Ó, Santa Marina, Água Branca, Sesc-Pompeia and Perdizes. Those stations currently run under assisted operation, Monday to Friday except holidays, from 10:00 to 15:00, and travel is free of charge.
According to Artesp, the section has carried more than 108,000 passengers in its first months. The line still does not operate full-time, and it does not yet offer the full route planned in the project.
Full route and expected benefits
The complete line is planned to be 15.3 kilometres long with 15 stations, linking the Brasilândia neighbourhood with São Joaquim station in central São Paulo. Once finished, the line is expected to carry more than 630,000 passengers per day. According to the information released, the trip between the two regions could fall to about 23 minutes, compared with roughly one and a half hours by bus.
Project responsibilities
The line is being built through a public-private partnership between the state government and Linha Uni, which will also operate the system in the future. The construction work is carried out by the Spanish company Acciona. The forecast for full completion of all 15 stations is October 2027.
