According to Evening Standard, central London Tube services were heavily disrupted on Wednesday afternoon after an incident on the tracks around Cannon Street. The publication described it as a customer incident, and emergency services attended the scene.
Lines and stations affected
- The District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines were partly suspended from around 5.30pm.
- The District line was closed between Tower Hill and Earls Court.
- The Circle and Hammersmith & City lines had no service between Edgware Road and Aldgate.
As of 7pm, all three lines had reopened. Evening Standard reported, however, that they were still operating with severe delays, so passengers could expect knock-on effects on their journeys.
Other disruption on the same day
Southeastern mainline National Rail services also faced residual crowding and short-notice platform changes linked to the ongoing emergency response, according to the same report.
Evening Standard said it was a day of further problems on the Underground. The Mildmay line was severely delayed by a faulty train at Willesden Junction, and the Piccadilly line was shut all day between Cockfosters and Uxbridge.
Responses requested
Evening Standard said it had contacted Transport for London and the British Transport Police for comment. At the time of publication, the source did not include their responses.
Passengers planning journeys on the affected routes may wish to check current service information before travelling.
