A fire on Line B of the Mexico City Metro has suspended service at 11 stations, according to Infobae México. The fire broke out outside facilities of the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo and damaged electrical cabling between Oceanía and Deportivo Oceanía.

Stations affected

The suspended section runs from Deportivo Oceanía to Ciudad Azteca. The stations without train service are Deportivo Oceanía, Bosque de Aragón, Villa de Aragón, Nezahualcóyotl, Impulsora, Río de los Remedios, Múzquiz, Ecatepec, Olímpica, Plaza Aragón and Ciudad Azteca.

According to Infobae México, the disruption mainly affects travelers heading to the northeast of the Valley of Mexico, where Line B is the main connection to the capital.

Alternatives for passengers

  • Units of the Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) run between Oceanía and Villa de Aragón as an emergency measure.
  • The Ecatepec government has enabled free service on Mexibús Line 2 and conventional public transport between Ciudad Azteca and Villa de Aragón.

The Metro asked users to allow extra travel time and to follow the instructions of staff at the stations.

Cause and repairs

The Metro reported that the fire was caused by burning garbage in the surrounding area. Specialized staff from the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo are working on repairing the cabling, but no time for restoring service has been set.

Academic flexibility

In a statement released on Wednesday, according to Infobae México, the FES Aragón asked students to keep in contact with their teachers about travel difficulties that could affect attendance or deadlines. The faculty asked professors to consider these circumstances and avoid penalizing students for a situation beyond their control.
