According to Il Giorno, ATM has posted a notice on its website confirming that public transport in Milan will operate regularly on Friday, October 30, 2026. The planned strike called by the USB union for that day has therefore been stopped. The notice refers to an order issued on Tuesday, October 27, by the Ministry of Transport, which postponed the national general strike in the public transport sector and instructed workers to carry out their scheduled shifts.
The source explains that the ministry's decision, taken under the leadership of Matteo Salvini, means workers who had planned to stop work have been required to report for duty. According to Il Giorno, commuters and the many tourists still visiting the city will not have to deal with guaranteed-service bands or station closures linked to the strike.
Regional trains
The same measures apply to Trenord. According to a note released by the company's press office, the strike has been deferred to another date and trains will run according to the official timetable. The company said that the changes announced in an earlier notice are no longer valid.
"The trains must run according to the official timetable," according to the Trenord press office.
Passengers are advised to check real-time train movements in the Trenord app and to pay attention to announcements in stations and to the scrolling information on monitors.
Demonstrations and further strikes
A large march against the rising cost of living and rearmament is also scheduled for Friday, October 30. According to Il Giorno, it may keep public order officers busy, who are concerned about possible clashes and violence.
Further industrial action has also been announced. According to the same source, a metro and transport strike in Milan is planned for Friday, November 13, and a general strike called by the CGIL union is set for the following week, on Friday, November 20.
