The Line 2 metro tunnel linking Napoli Campi Flegrei and Pozzuoli will remain closed for the time being, according to ANSA Campania. The section has been out of service since 31 July, and no reopening date has been set.
Why the section remains closed
The news comes from Fiorella Zabatta, the regional assessor for Civil Protection in Campania, speaking after a meeting of the regional working table dedicated to reopening the tunnel safely. Zabatta said that Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) has not presented any solution to the presence of CO2 in the Line 2 tunnel between Napoli Campi Flegrei and Pozzuoli. For this reason, the section will not reopen in the short term.
According to the regional government, it has supported technical discussions since the first hours after the earthquake, and it has asked residents, workers and students to be patient while waiting for RFI to act.
What passengers should know
The regional government says that commuters, students and residents of the area are the groups most affected by the closure. Assessor Mario Casillo, who oversees transport for the region, worked alongside Zabatta on the search for possible solutions, as reported by ANSA Campania.
Zabatta said that after months of institutional discussions, the intentions have not turned into concrete results for citizens.
What the source does not specify
The information released by ANSA Campania does not indicate a new timetable for works, a timeline for the reopening or alternative transport arrangements for the Pozzuoli section. The regional government has asked RFI for a clear operational plan, supported by technical assessments and a reliable schedule. Passengers who rely on this line should check official updates from the operators for any future changes.
