According to Diário do Transporte, Edmonson magnetic tickets stopped being accepted at the turnstiles of São Paulo Metro lines 1-Azul, 2-Verde, 3-Vermelha and 15-Prata from Sunday, November 1, 2026. Passengers could still use these paper tickets until October 31.
The Metro will continue to exchange unused Edmonson tickets for QR Codes from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027. The exchange is available only at Paraíso and Tatuapé stations, from 6am to 10pm, at the ticket offices that are open.
Which tickets can be exchanged
Only Edmonson tickets of the São Paulo Metro, type G-01 Unitário, can be exchanged. They must be valid, in good condition and show no signs of use or invalidation, such as punch marks, damaged bars, tears or other marks that affect their integrity.
How the exchange works
- Up to 10 valid tickets are exchanged at the time of the request.
- Above 10 tickets, the passenger must leave the tickets for analysis and validation, presenting an official identification document and a phone number or email for contact.
- After the analysis, the passenger is informed of the date to collect the corresponding QR Codes.
Other ways to pay
According to the Metro, passengers can now use the Bilhete Único, the TOP card and single-trip QR Code tickets, in printed or digital form. QR Codes can be bought at ticket offices, self-service machines in stations, through the TOP app and via WhatsApp at (11) 3777-9456.
The self-service machines now also accept Pix payments, in addition to debit card. Passengers can also pay directly at the turnstiles by contactless payment, using physical or virtual credit and debit cards from Visa, Mastercard and Elo. This option also works with phones, smartwatches and other compatible devices with digital wallets.
According to Diário do Transporte, the Metro presents the change as part of its modernization of access to the system, which has been in place since the start of commercial operation in 1974.
