According to Metrô SP, 14 stations of the São Paulo Metro will receive collection points for the correct disposal of electronic waste, portable batteries and small batteries starting Thursday, 5 November 2026. The initiative is part of this year's Virada Sustentável programme and is promoted by Green Eletron in partnership with Coopermiti and the Metrô. It is the sixth edition of the campaign.
Where the collection points are
The collection points are located on lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver. According to Metrô SP, the collectors will be placed and clearly signposted inside the participating stations, usually close to the SSOs (Operational Supervision Rooms). The campaign runs from 5 November to 11 December 2026, during the normal operating hours of each station.
- Line 1-Blue: Santana, Liberdade, Saúde and Tucuruvi
- Line 15-Silver: Sapopemba and Vila Tolstói
- Line 2-Green: Clínicas, Paraíso, Tamanduateí and Sacomã
- Line 3-Red: Palmeiras-Barra Funda, República, Sé and Tatuapé
What can be dropped off
The collectors accept small and medium-sized electronic equipment, along with portable batteries. According to the source, all collected material will be sent for sorting and recycling, so that recovered raw materials return to the production chain.
Opening action
The campaign will be launched with an awareness event for passengers on Thursday, 5 November, from 10am to 12pm, at Sacomã station on Line 2-Green. Informative material on recycling and responsible disposal will be handed out during the activity.
Results so far
According to Metrô SP, the campaign collected 2.2 tonnes of electronic waste in 2025. Over the five years of the initiative, more than 10 tonnes have been collected. The campaign aims to make it easier for the public to reach the Voluntary Delivery Points (PEVs) and to encourage proper disposal and recycling of these materials.
Virada Sustentável is presented in the source as the largest sustainability festival in Brazil, bringing together civil society organisations, public bodies, cultural groups, companies, schools and universities.
