According to Diário do Transporte, the São Paulo Metro will change its operating schedule during the extended Finados (All Souls' Day) holiday. The most notable change is uninterrupted overnight service on four lines.
Friday (30) and weekend timetables
On Friday (30), a point optional for state public servants because of the Dia do Servidor Público, all Metro lines will run the weekday timetable, with the usual fleet and number of trips. On Saturday (31) and Sunday (1), trains will follow the regular timetable for each day, with service adjusted to expected demand.
Overnight operation
Between Saturday and Sunday, lines 1-Azul, 2-Verde, 3-Vermelha and 15-Prata will run 24 hours a day, and all stations on these lines will be open for boarding and alighting. The source states that this is part of an experimental project extended until 31 January 2027. Service will continue until midnight on Sunday, when stations close. Operations will resume at 4:40 on Monday (2). According to Diário do Transporte, the measure is meant to widen travel options for people who work at night or take part in cultural and leisure activities during the early hours.
Monday (2) holiday schedule
- Lines 1-Azul, 2-Verde and 15-Prata will offer a number of trips equal to a Sunday, based on forecast demand.
- Line 3-Vermelha will follow the holiday timetable but will have more trains in circulation.
The extra capacity on Line 3-Vermelha takes into account a scheduled interruption on Line 11-Coral. According to the report, this may lead passengers travelling from the east zone toward the city centre to use the Metro instead.
Reserve trains and monitoring
Reserve trains will remain available throughout the extended holiday to reinforce operations if needed. According to Diário do Transporte, the Operational Control Center will monitor passenger movement at stations and may adjust the trip offer based on how crowded they are.
