According to Diário do Transporte, the Artesp, the state agency that regulates public transport concessions in São Paulo, approved a new agreement with SPTrans, the municipal company that manages the city's bus system. The decision, taken at a meeting on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, and published in the state official gazette on Wednesday, 28 October, aims to keep the existing physical, operational and fare integration between municipal buses and metropolitan services.
Bus integration with SPTrans
The agreement covers the sharing of urban and metropolitan terminals and the preservation of current conditions between the two systems. Metropolitan intercity buses are regulated by the state, while SPTrans runs the municipal network in the capital. The agreement sets out how facilities are used, how managers share responsibilities and how integration works.
The publication does not list the terminals included, the validity period of the agreement, or any rules for sharing costs. It also does not change the fares paid by passengers. According to the source, the immediate effect is to formalize the integration that already exists, not to create new connections or fare benefits. The decision was approved unanimously.
Extension of the Lines 8 and 9 service contract
In a second decision, the Artesp approved a draft of the fourth amendment to a service contract between the operator of Lines 8-Diamante and 9-Esmeralda, which trades as ViaMobilidade, and the Consórcio Pólux-Geribello. The amendment sets new execution and validity periods, running up to 2031. According to the publication, the execution period is the time planned for carrying out the services, while validity is the time the contract remains in force, which can include later administrative steps.
The amendment also adds financial value to the contract, but the amount is not stated in the published decision. The Artesp made clear that its approval does not recognize any right to economic and financial rebalancing of the Lines 8 and 9 concession, and does not validate the values presented. The extension does not, by itself, change the concession term for the two lines.
The lines involved
- Line 8-Diamante links the Júlio Prestes and Barra Funda area to the western zone of the metropolitan region, reaching Itapevi, with service also to Osasco, Carapicuíba, Barueri and Jandira.
- Line 9-Esmeralda serves the southern and western zones of the capital and reaches Osasco, and is linked to other rail lines and to municipal and metropolitan bus services.
According to Diário do Transporte, the next steps are the formal signing of the SPTrans agreement and the formalization of the fourth amendment for Lines 8 and 9, under the conditions set by the Artesp board. The publication does not give further details on how either change will affect daily service.
