According to La Nación, public transport in Buenos Aires City will cost more from Sunday, November 1. Fares for the city's buses, the Buenos Aires Underground (subte) and the city's highway tolls are rising by 3.9%.

New subte fares

The standard subte ticket increases from $1817 to $1887,86 per trip for passengers with a registered SUBE card. Passengers without a registered SUBE card will pay $2624,03.

The source also reports that the Premetro receives the same percentage adjustment. A trip on it will cost $660,75 in November, or up to $918,44 for passengers without a registered SUBE card.

Frequent-rider discounts

The subte keeps its discount scheme based on the number of trips made during the month:

  • Trips 1 to 20: full fare.
  • Trips 21 to 30: 20% discount.
  • Trips 31 to 40: 30% discount.
  • From trip 41: 40% discount.

According to the report, benefits for retirees and pensioners, people with disabilities, transplant recipients and students remain in force.

How the monthly adjustment works

The Buenos Aires City and provincial governments apply a monthly formula that adds two percentage points to the inflation measured by Indec. The latest available figure, the September consumer price index of 1.9%, produces the 3.9% adjustment for November.

Other fares

The minimum city bus fare rises from $920,48 to $956,38 for registered SUBE cards. The increase covers the 27 bus lines under city jurisdiction. Tolls on the 25 de Mayo and Perito Moreno highways will be $7049,78, and the Illia highway will be $2930,85 for light vehicles during peak hours.

Provincial bus lines also rise, with a minimum fare of $1262,48 for trips of up to three kilometers. National-jurisdiction bus lines keep their minimum fare at $742,81 for the time being. Train fares in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area have no changes and cost between $450 and $790, depending on the section traveled.
