São Paulo state will offer free public transport to all students taking the Enem national high school exam on Sunday 8 and Sunday 15, the two exam days. According to g1 São Paulo, the benefit applies from 9am to 9pm and does not require proof of school enrollment.

Which services are included

According to g1 São Paulo, the free travel covers the lines operated by the Metrô and by CPTM, the commuter rail company. It also includes the concessions Motiva, TIC Trens and Trivia Trens, intercity buses and the VLT light rail. The state government said the benefit is valid in all metropolitan regions of the state of São Paulo.

Extra capacity on trains

To handle the extra passengers, transport companies will keep spare trains ready on all lines. They can be put into service if demand rises. Station staff teams will also be reinforced, according to the same report.

Free buses for state school students

The state government also plans to provide about 7,000 buses to take around 70,000 students from state schools to exam sites. The service will reach more than 500 municipalities. According to g1 São Paulo, this is the first time the operation has been carried out. It is meant for students who live in cities without free public transport during the Enem, or who have no access to lines serving their home or exam location.

The buses can collect students at their homes or at meeting points set in advance. Students with disabilities will be picked up door to door. The Secretariat of Education (Seduc-SP) coordinates the operation, which will be organized by the 91 Regional Education Units (UREs) according to the needs of each municipality.

What students should do

Students and their families should contact the regional unit responsible for their school to check boarding points and instructions for the exam days.

Enrollment figures

According to Seduc-SP, 315.2 thousand third-year high school students in the state school network are registered for the Enem this year. This is equivalent to 94.3% of those enrolled.
