Passengers on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor may pay considerably more than on the existing Pune Metro, according to Hindustan Times. The proposed maximum fare for a journey longer than 18 km is ₹62, while the current maximum on Pune Metro is ₹35.

Proposed fare slabs for Line 3

According to the report, the proposed fare structure for Pune Metro Line 3 follows the agreement signed with the concessionaire. The planned fares are:

  • Up to 2 km: ₹12
  • 2 to 4 km: ₹25
  • 4 to 8 km: ₹37
  • 8 to 12 km: ₹43
  • 12 to 18 km: ₹49
  • Above 18 km: ₹62

The base fare for the first 2 km is set at ₹10, with an initial calculated value of ₹12.36. The report says this was rounded to ₹12 for actual collection, and the other distance slabs were rounded to the nearest rupee in the same way.

Comparison with the existing network

The existing Pune Metro has a minimum fare of ₹10. Under its published 2026 fare structure, according to the report, passengers pay ₹20 for journeys between 2 km and 4 km, ₹25 for 4 to 8 km and ₹30 for 8 to 16 km, with fares varying by distance travelled.

Official statements

Abhijit Chaudhari, PMRDA commissioner, explained the difference in funding models. He said Pune Metro is a government-funded project, while the Line 3 corridor is being developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. For that reason, he said, the Line 3 fares were fixed according to the concession agreement. He added that compared with other metro projects built under the PPP model, the fares are not high.

Anilkumar Saini, chief executive officer of IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), said the fare structure will be reviewed after six months. He also said the company expects the Metro to record a daily ridership of 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh passengers.

What commuters should know

The fares described are the proposals reported by Hindustan Times and may change after the review. Commuters planning regular trips on the corridor can compare the distance slabs above with the current Pune Metro structure to estimate their costs once the line opens.
