According to Cooperativa.cl, Metro de Santiago announced on Thursday that its service will be extended until 03:30 on Sunday morning. The change is linked to the closing event of the Teletón at the Estadio Nacional.
Lines and expected attendance
The extended schedule covers Line 3 and Line 6. Pamela Barros, Operations Manager of the subway network, gave details in an interview with Lo Que Queda del Día, as reported by Cooperativa.cl. The network says more than 60,000 people may attend the event, and the extra hours are meant to make the trip back easier for them.
Stations and access points
Ten stations on Lines 3 and 6 will open under the special schedule, allowing passengers to transfer between the two lines. Access will be available mainly at Quilicura, Universidad de Chile, Irarrázaval, Ñuñoa and Plaza Egaña.
Service levels
According to Metro, the conditions during the extended hours will be the same as during normal operation, and the network is reinforcing and extending its staff, including contractors and internal personnel. However, the interval between trains will be wider than on a regular schedule.
Advice for passengers
Metro asks riders to plan their journeys in advance. Among its suggestions:
- Load bip! cards before travelling so there is enough balance.
- Plan trips ahead so entry through station gates moves more quickly.
Metro also reported that 19 stations in the network will have auxiliary collection boxes to support the Teletón cause.
