According to Diário do Transporte, the Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo confirmed progress on studies for two conventional, high-capacity metro lines that would serve the Grande ABC region and link it to São Paulo. The information was presented at a meeting held on 5 November 2026 at the Consórcio Intermunicipal Grande ABC.
Line 21-Vinho: studies in progress
Line 21-Vinho is at an early stage. The Metrô is in the final phase of the tender to contract the preliminary engineering design and the environmental impact study (EIA-Rima), which will define station locations, the route and engineering solutions. The initial reference has about 23 kilometres, 21 stations and an estimated demand of 740,000 passengers per day.
The planned route would run from Diadema to the Aricanduva and Parque do Carmo areas of São Paulo's East Zone, passing through São Bernardo do Campo, Santo André and São Caetano do Sul. Passengers could travel between ABC municipalities and the East Zone without passing through central São Paulo to transfer. Preliminary investment was estimated at about R$ 35 billion, and no opening date has been set.
Line 20-Rosa: works planned from Santo André in 2028
Technical work on Line 20-Rosa is expected to be completed in 2027, with construction starting in 2028 from Santo André, according to the information presented to the Consórcio. The fully underground line is planned with 24 stations, between about 31 and 33 kilometres depending on route revisions. It would connect the Santo André area with Santa Marina station in the Lapa district of São Paulo.
A first phase with eight stations, five of them in Grande ABC, is expected to be completed by 2033 between Santo André and Moema. Diário do Transporte notes that this phase still needs detail, as it is unclear which stations it would include.
Planned connections in São Paulo
- Santa Marina: Linha 6-Laranja
- Lapa: Linhas 7-Rubi and 8-Diamante
- Cerro Corá: Linha 2-Verde
- Fradique Coutinho: Linha 4-Amarela
- Moema: Linha 5-Lilás
- Saúde: Linha 1-Azul
In Santo André, the station would connect with Linha 10-Turquesa. These figures and connections are technical projections that depend on the final design and on the other projects involved, not current ridership or contracted works.
