The São Paulo Metrô has opened a public tender to contract the installation of small-scale solar power plants at Belém and Bresser-Mooca stations, both on Line 3-Vermelha. According to Diário do Transporte, the systems would be connected to the internal electrical grid of the two stations, so that part of their consumption could be supplied by a renewable source.
What the tender covers
The electronic tender, identified as Concorrência Eletrônica nº 10018578 with registration nº 429/2026 on the Compras.gov system, covers only the implementation of the plants. Diário do Transporte reports that the full notice will be available from 30 October 2026, and that the public session for the proposals is set for 12 January 2027 at 10h, in an electronic environment.
Line 3-Vermelha and the two stations
Line 3-Vermelha links Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Corinthians-Itaquera, and the source describes it as one of the busiest in the capital's metro network. Belém and Bresser-Mooca are both on this line.
What is not yet known
According to Diário do Transporte, the notice does not state the power of the equipment, the estimated investment, or the amount of energy the plants will produce. It also contains no projection of annual savings and no payback period, so the reduction in the stations' electricity costs cannot be estimated at this stage. The publication does not give a date for the start of installation or for the plants to begin operating.
Traction power is not part of the notice
The source makes a clear distinction: the plants are intended to supply station installations, not the electricity used to move trains. The notice does not say that the solar plants will power Line 3-Vermelha trains. Solar generation also depends on sunlight and does not automatically replace the continuous power supply that railway operation requires.
Next steps
After the proposals are presented and analysed, the contract will depend on the result of the tender and on the completion of the required administrative procedures. The procedure follows Federal Law nº 13.303/2016, which applies to state-owned companies. According to Diário do Transporte, the technical project and the contract will later show the generation capacity, number of panels, installation solutions, execution deadlines and costs.
